Erin Wolf Park Kids!
Junior Volunteer Program

Hi! My name is Jessica and I'm a Junior Volunteer (JV) at Wolf Park. I'm 11 years old (5th grade) and live in Indiana with my Dad, Mom and sister Shannon (she's a Junior Volunteer also). Our family loves animals and we currently have 6 pets. We have 2 Chow Chow dogs, 2 cats and 2 guinea pigs.

Jessica the Junior Volunteer Being a JV is fun because you get to do cool stuff! My favorite thing we did was feed the wolves and go into the fox enclosure to feed them raisins. In February, we made up wolf Valentine cards and took them to a nursing home for the older people. That was cool cause it was nice to see them smile and having as much fun as we did.

JV's also do some work. Sometimes we clean up the fox enclosure, clean the bleachers, pick up trash around the park or sweep out the Education or Gift Shop buildings. I don't mind though, I think it's fun because I love to help out and it makes me feel good to see that we made the park cleaner for other people to have fun.

Jessica meets Basil the fox For Easter, we did an Easter Egg Hunt for the wolves. What we did was the staff members put all of the main pack wolves into their holding pens and when they were finished the JV's went into the main enclosure and hid decorated, hard boiled eggs for them to find. Then the staff members let the wolves out and they searched for the eggs and ate them. We also did an Easter egg hunt for the kids (humans, that is). We played a few games like egg toss and such. I had a great time and so did some of my friends that had come out with their parents! We also put together a science project for Members' Weekend (just a few weeks ago) -- that was really awesome cause we learned a lot about wolves while having fun putting it together. On May 5th we are doing the Walk for Education. We got donations from people we knew so that we could do more things with the JV program.

I can't wait to find out what we will be doing next because everything we get to do is always so cool! If anyone out there is thinking about being a Junior Volunteer you should talk to your parents and have them call or write to John Davis to get the information. I know you would have as much fun being a JV as I'm having!!!
